Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SAW’s Nordic Lab converted planned on-site residencies to at-home residencies for Indigenous artists from circumpolar communities in Nunavut, Alaska, Norway and Ottawa. The Nordic Lab is working with the invited artists over a longer period toward future public presentations of their work in Ottawa and elsewhere, including exhibitions, performances and artist talks. With these residencies, the Nordic Lab aims to provide a more involved level of support for artists who are creating new works, including on-going mentoring, help with accessing funding opportunities and eventual access to studio space or other in-person resources in Ottawa.
